What CEOs Do and How They Can Do it Better

Are you showing up each day intentionally to support your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)?

When I ask leaders whether their daily actions support the business outcomes they want, I often get this response:.

“I have not thought that through."

Without focusing on the outcomes of what you are creating, you show up less intentionally, and you know what happens when you lead without intention.

It reduces your power, your agency, and your ability to influence.

Leaders who want to scale their businesses make decisions today based on the future they want.

A systematized approach to leading to outcomes, evaluating, and quickly adapting is a proven formula for sustained growth.

The 3As Formula is designed to accelerate you faster to your goals:

- Act towards predetermined outcomes

- Audit to evaluate progress

- Adapt to move quickly forward

The success of your business is first driven by thinking through the outcomes ahead of time. This is more than being prepared. It’s preparation with intention based on long-term results.

When you do, you show up with an already done mindset. A done mindset is focused on key priorities making you less likely to be distracted or attracted to new shiny pennies.

This doesn’t mean you are not open to new thinking or new ideas.

As the C.E.O. of your business, having a done mindset gives you more space to be open to new ideas to create a future that is aligned to and in pursuit of what you are creating.

Act

When you show up with an outcome-driven mindset, you’ve taken the time to predetermine outcomes with questions like these:

What needs to be shared?

What needs to be discovered?

What needs to be learned?

What insights are needed to make informed decisions?

What questions will you ask to influence and change perspectives?

What needs to be addressed to achieve the outcome?

What needs to be put on the table so that it can be taken off the table?

What needs to be agreed to?

Audit

The next powerful step to advance you to your BHAG is doing a formal evaluation.

An evaluation will help you grow, adapt and quickly change. Evaluations are a measurement of your performance and the entire experience. Measuring your results every day makes you accountable, keeps you focused, and helps you get better.

Use these questions to help you evaluate and measure progress:

What was the intended outcome?

Was it achieved - Y/N or in part?

What worked?

What didn’t?

What would I have done differently?

What will I do next time or going forward?

Put your answers to these questions on paper. Be intentional because when you write about it in full detail, you will see things that you may not have if you leave them in your messy mind.

Seeing them on paper is where new thoughts, ideas, and new points of view emerge. It will help you regain your focus and set you back on course when needed.

Evaluations are simply the most powerful tool any leader can use to lead themselves to the outcomes they want.

Adapt

Now, apply what you've learned to stay the course, pivot, improve and grow.

A cycle of acting, auditing, and adapting on repeat is a system that will set you up for success.

When you begin showing up with this level of intention, you show up stronger and more confident for yourself, your people, your business, and your future.
