How to be a Resilient Leader

Did you know that when you’re flying, the plane is off course 90% of the time?

Despite being off course for most of the flight, the plane arrives on time and at the right airport. Turbulence and winds are not a barrier to achieving the goal of landing on time and at the right airport.

The need for corrections is expected and planned.

What if we could embrace course corrections as a strategic tool to uncover blind spots and make what’s working for you work harder? In your business, life, and career.

What if we could be course-correcting 90% of our weeks? Small changes, improvements, adjustments, and decisions for bigger results before a crisis and unneeded drama.

What do you think when you look at what’s working and what isn’t working in your business?

I was recently asked this question inside of my Mastermind.

This question can create all-or-nothing thinking. Seeing it as black and white, wrong or right. I’m a black-and-white thinker, which is why this exercise below was so revealing for me.

All-or-nothing thinking is not where your growth lies.

When we think - 'this is working,' - we stop investigating.

When we think - 'this is not working,' - we go into a negative spiral filled with shame, blame, and causes and don't investigate or audit from our strategic C.E.O. mind.

It’s working used blindly doesn't allow for continuous improvements for even stronger results.

It's not working used blindly removes us from actually recognizing all the things that ARE working. This is a huge trap I see working with my high-performing clients.

What if we used course correction for both: what's working and what’s not?

Course corrections as a planning tool to reduce worry or even prevent it and accelerate progress.

Here's a simple exercise to bring fresh eyes to the coming week.

Write a list of both what's working and what's not. You can do this for your life, business, and career.

For each item on the what's working list, consider what’s possible with 1% or even 10% improvement moving from good to even better.

For each item on the list of what's not working, write a list of possible course corrections.

When I did this exercise, I was surprised by how much I had not considered in terms of what was working that could be working even better.

My audit of what was not working was mostly rooted in mindset and showed me where I needed to get my own Coaching.

A powerful C.E.O. doesn’t wait for a crisis. A powerful C.E.O. continuously works to build capacity to shape and ensure they achieve your goals.

If you want to take this exercise further, I wrote about the 3As Formula from my Coaching program here.

If you are considering working with a Coach or want to know more about the components of a Coaching engagement, let’s get on a call with this link.

The question I get most frequently on these calls, ‘what results can I achieve?’ Here’s what one client shared:

“The biggest impact working with Christina....The biggest change I've noticed about myself internally is.... Increased comfort with uncertainty. I now have confidence in my ability to manage difficult situations and control my own destiny. I'm taking a much more 'offensive' approach to managing my career, even when the immediate next step isn't clear.

High performance business coaching, executive leadership coaching, life coaching combined for massive value and impact on your life and business.
