Doing Less BETTER

One of my intentions for 2024 is to do less BETTER.

I'm wired as a high performer. I have one gear, and that's overdrive.

But there is a cost to everything.

My 'old' mindset had me thinking that doing less was lazy (eating bonbons on the beach).

I'm working on doing less better while I create a life that allows me to have more joy and ease with the greatest impact while doing less of what doesn't.

Doing Less Protocol

  • Doing less doesn’t mean not doing what must get done.

  • Doing less is doing less low-value work because of its minimal impact and because you are more attached to your Zone-of-Genius work (higher impact/value).

  • Doing less is the result of finding new solutions for low-value work: process, delegation, or deletion.

  • Doing less embraces the trade-off, letting go of the 'dimes' for the 'dollars' even when it requires more investment, time, and patience from you today for more future impact. This could come with short-term costs, but your commitment to higher impact is a trade-off worth making.

Doing Less Mindset

To focus on the high-impact/value work, you must stop:

  • Using the past to plan forward.

  • Staying in your comfort zone.

  • Measuring success or productivity by the quantity of work.

  • Believing when you say: ‘I have to.’

  • Working from your default: Doing what you have always done how you’ve always done it.

  • Letting distractions take the lead.

Doing Less Better

Here are steps to ensure you are focused on higher impact/value work.

* Committing to your future. What impact do you want to make?

* Being ruthless about where you spend your time. Deciding ahead of time.

* Investing in new capabilities and personal growth.

* Begin your thoughts with ‘I want to’ (letting go of need-to or have-to).

* Focus on the quality of your work by knowing and leveraging your Zone of Genius.

* Managing your mind every day. (*Sign up for my Daily Prompt below)

Establishing new processes is time-consuming. When I committed to writing For Success Sake!, I didn’t want to work more; I wanted to work less, but I needed 10 hours a week to write. It took me 2 months to audit the high-value work, decide on trade-offs, and define the low-value work I would delegate with a process.

You multiply your time by giving yourself the emotional permission

to spend time on things today that will give you more time tomorrow.

Invest the time to get back your time—the result: exponential impact on your mindset, your self-concept, and your confidence.

Below is my list of ‘less is more’ commitments.

➡️ Less scrolling for more writing.

➡️ Less low-value work for more high-value work.

➡️ Less week-to-week for more quarterly and annual planning.

➡️ Less unmanaged calendar time for more focused work time to create.

➡️ Less sugar for more protein.

➡️ Less alcohol for more and better sleep.

➡️ Less people pleasing for more peace and boundaries.

➡️ Less doubt for more doing from my heart.

➡️ Less work days for more time off.

➡️ Less sitting for more walking and workouts.

What are your 'less for more' commitments?

Share them with me. I’d love to read them, learn from it, and be inspired.
